Curriculum

Vivake Khamsingsavath (Vive) is a Laotian American dancer, teacher and choreographer from Brooklyn, New York. He studied dance at Binghamton University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Vive has toured across the globe teaching and performing. In NYC, he has performed at notable venues including The Shed, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, Broadway at Bryant Park and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Vive has appeared on the Today Show, The View and Good Morning America. He was listed as one of the “Hottest Men in Dance” by The Huffington Post, featured in campaigns for The W Hotels, VISA, Nintendo and Sears. Vive served as choreographer for The US Open, Bravo TV, Bloomingdales, PUMAxMaybelline, NARS Cosmetics, Lululemon, and TNT’s “I Am The Night”. Vive has been able to teach in Brazil, Costa Rica, Greece, Mexico, London, Nigeria, Germany and Italy. He is passionate about sharing dance with others.

Description

The class offers tools to activate their imagination, diving deeper into artistic possibilities. A nurturing space to explore ideas and strive for movement potential. Breath work is emphasized throughout a guided choreographed warm up, improvisation and phrase work. We will practice moving with texture, navigating space, manipulating time, finding suspension and release. Contemporary movement that draws inspiration from nature and internal energy. The flow of movement that feels organic to each person: Contemporary Flow.

CONTEMPORARY FLOOR  – 05. November 2023 von 12.15 – 14.15 Uhr, with MATHILDE GILHET (F)

Curriculum

Born in France, Mathilde Gilhet danced professionally with the Ballet Junior de Genève (CH), FluxFlow Dance Project (USA), Alias Company (CH), Teatro Nacional São Carlos (PT), The French Embassy in Portugal, and Quorum Ballet (PT). She is the Associate Artistic Director of On Board(hers), an all-women dance project based on the testimonies of female immigrants, and an international judge for recognized dance competitions such as Youth American Grand Prix and Dance World Cup. Mathilde has been working as the Head of the Contemporary Dance Program at FLUX + FLOW Dance and Movement Center in Columbus (USA) since 2018 and was a full time faculty member for Arts Umbrella in Vancouver (CA). Mathilde joined the Tanz Luzerner Theater in July 2020 and founded the WE Program, an international self-sustainable platform dedicated to movement lovers, in November 2020.

Class Description

Drawing inspiration from animal coordinations and disciplines that Mathilde is passionate about, such as martial arts and breakdance, this contemporary workshop has a strong focus on floorwork. Built on movement flow, coordination and combinations which stimulate the cardio-vascular system, the warm-up will help participants to prepare physically and mentally and will provide them with a better awareness of the whole body. The second part of the workshop will focus on a series of body locomotion in order to explore the mechanics and coordinations of our own anatomy. By studying organic movement through different qualities and dynamics such as balancing, swinging, stabilizing, rolling, falling, and melting down, the aim will be to find smooth transitions to and from the floor. The last part of the workshop, consisting of longer movement sequences, will help participants to develop their individual approach to moving and to perform with confidence. The workshop aims to be accessible to a wide variety of movement backgrounds, practices and levels. All sequences and exercises delivered, have a variety of alternate movements for different levels and individual abilities.
